With an economy artificially linked to the USD and enjoying its status as the only English speaking country in Central America, Belize can prove very tough for those on a strict budget. The cheap accommodation so prevalent elsewhere is rare and eating-out in tourist hotspots can cost almost as much as in the U.K.  Boat transportation also has a premium attached to it.

Scuba, snorkelling and other watersports are a big a draw here, and if you plan to indulge, your living budget will already be broken. For those looking to keep costs down, prioritising two to three locations and limiting vacation time will let you make the most of it.

Don't let cost put you off completely however, as this is a beautiful, welcoming and diverse country.
