vibe

There are plenty hostels for hippies and hostels for party animals around Granada, and this fits neither group. Instead, Hamacas is a quiet, family run hostel which, although basic and could do with a little interior design love, is a really good cheap base for your time in the city.

Location

Excellent. Located next to the oldest church in the city, it's only a 3 minute walk to the main plaza and 5-10 minutes to the main supermarkets in town.

Best thing

Quick and reliable wi-fi (unlike many other hostels in town), plugs on every table and a big courtyard (with lots of hammocks) for socialising. Plenty of space to do your own laundry too.

Worst thing

The kitchen is decent (with lots of pots and pans) but could do with another light for the evening as it's very poorly lit and there are definitely better dorms in town. Also, when the hostel is near full capacity, the two shared bathrooms can be a little limited - although they were cleaned, very regularly throughout the day.

Value for money

Very good. Granada is, for some reason, the cheapest place for accommodation in Nicaragua and Hamacas is a great option for anyone looking to stay for more than a few nights. We secured a good long-term deal.
