Three Brothers, Little Corn Island | Hostel Review

$12 per night, double with shared bathroom, 5th  - 12th November 2014

Vibe

Typically younger guests, there was no specific type of clientele.

Location

A 5-minute walk from where the pangas collect and drop off – follow the road left and it is clearly sign-posted. Ideally located for restaurants and bars and doesn't require late night walks down dark alleys or through jungle (and it's very close to the late-night hangout 'Reggae / Eagle' bar).

Best thing

Considered somewhat of a luxury on an island full of beach-side cabanas, Three Brothers had a pretty good kitchen (and is one of few on the island with such a facility). Although we still ended up having dinner out most nights (who could pass up all that amazing fresh seafood!?), it was nice having somewhere to rustle up a cheap breakfast of afternoon snack.

Additionally, this hostel is very secure. Although it would have been lovely to stay by the beach, security would have been a big concern for us – Three Brothers has a lockable front door and there are always staff and family milling around.

Worst thing

There was very little ventilation in our room, which wouldn't have been a problem had the electricity not been switched off between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. (all over the island, not just at the hostel) - it unfortunately meant that sleeping past this time resulted in a hot, sweaty mess!

Value for money

As we decided to stay more than four nights, we were able to negotiate a discount on our room – reduced from $15 a night to $12. Given that we were on a tiny island where people could probably charge what they like, this hostel was spectacularly good value!

For those who can spend a bit more, there are also casitas with private kitchens and bathrooms available.

Recommended for

Those looking to save a few pennies by cooking themselves the odd meal. It's also got a decent outside space for drinks, card games and socialising.

Top tip

In high-season, we could imagine this would be constantly full – it is difficult to contact the owners in advance, but do persevere!

Amenities

Kitchen, snorkelling and fishing tours, social area, hammocks, pets.
