Dona Goya, Flores | Hostel Review

14 bed dorm with shared bathroom, 35 GTQ/night, 27th April 2014

Vibe

This hostel is run by a local family and attracts many of the budget conscious travellers that pass through Flores on their way to Tikal. It is friendly, clean and quiet.

Location

Located one street back from the lake, on the west-side of the island.

Best thing

The large roof terrace with views over the lake and beyond is kitted-out with plenty of hammocks for those in need of a sunset beer.

Worst thing

There are no lockers in the dorms, or locks on the door. A sign kindly reminds you not to leave valuables in your room but to place in the safe with reception – this is not ideal if you are carrying lots of larger valuables. The internet is also very unreliable.

Value for money

You will not find a cheaper hostel on the island and is more than adequate for a day or two.

Recommended for

Those on a limited budget. Although the security in the dorms is not brilliant, the hostel itself is manned by staff 24 hours a day with a perpetually locked front door. This would be a good choice for a solo female traveller.

Top tip

The private rooms on the 2nd floor are much more secure and still rather reasonably priced (100 GTQ per room/night).

Amenities

Wifi, roof terrace, tours and tourist shuttles.
