Mexico has many wonderful things: music around every corner, delicious street-food and wonderful beaches. One thing it does not have however is cheap long-distance transport. On one journey, we spent £92.70, more than triple our daily budget.

As we were moving around often, we tried to save money wherever possible - taking the slower and cheaper buses, travelling overnight to save the cost of a room - but the price of transport was the sole factor in us missing budget.  The cheap food and accommodation on offer did however let us reduce costs elsewhere this month.

We also splurged a little more often than usual on eating out this month, given that we were in the culinary capital of Mexico - Oaxaca. In a few months, when our diet consists solely of rice and beans, we definitely won't regret this!
