6 Amazing Wadi Rum Luxury Camps

A night in Wadi Rum will be one of your most memorable moments in Jordan.

The vast, isolated desert in the south of Jordan resembles the landscape of Mars, and offers a unique setting for adventure, stargazing, and explorations on a ‘jeep safari’.

We think it’s absolutely unmissable, and every traveller should try to spend one night in the desert.

Traditionally, the only option for this were the traditional no-frills desert camps composed of small black goat-skin tents, but the rise in Jordan’s popularity as a travel destination has resulted in the creation of several luxury options, including the famous ‘bubble tents’ which immerse you within the otherworldly setting.

Although a night in Wadi Rum is going to be memorable wherever you stay, for those looking for a place that’s extra special, romantic, or totally unique, you now have more choice than ever.

In this post, we’ve shared six of the best luxury camps in Wadi Rum to help you pick the right one for your upcoming desert adventure.

One word of note before we continue: we have been quite selective with this list. There are a number of accommodations that classify themselves as ‘Wadi Rum luxury camps’, but we have excluded many that have relatively basic or tired rooms, domes or tents placed too close together (therefore removing the sense of a truly luxurious escape), or offer facilities and quality that can be found in cheaper desert camps.

Additionally, all prices include breakfast and dinner unless otherwise stated, but any tours or activities are in addition.

Lastly, ‘luxury’ in the desert has to be understood relatively, and aspects such as service, facilities, and food in a remote desert camp will not be at the level one would expect of a hotel in an international city!

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel

As the name would suggest, this place is all about the bubble tents!

Wadi Rum Luxotel does however offer a slightly alternative set up to other bubble-based offerings, with each private accommodation actually being composed of several smaller ‘bubbles’ with differing views - the bathroom is hidden away, the bedroom offers an obstructed views of the sky (excellent for stargazing) and the ‘living area’ provides panoramic, floor-to-ceiling vistas of the open desert.

They even come with a private decking area, replete with personal jacuzzi!

Having been established for several years now, the Luxotel is one of the more popular places to stay in Wadi Rum so we’d highly recommend booking a room sooner rather than later if you have your heart set on staying here.

All meals are included within the nightly price, and rather than the fixed menu offered in many other accommodations nearby, the chef will provide a semi-bespoke offering.

When you arrive at the camp, your concierge will explain the activities available. These include camel & jeep tours (and even helicopter tours!), trekking, and stargazing with professional telescopes and experts.

Prices | Rates run at £370 per night for most months with prices dropping to £283 in January and February.

Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel

Often confused with the camp above (for obvious reasons), the Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel offers a similar set-up but looks, at least in our opinion, to offer slightly more luxurious rooms alongside their incredible panoramic views.

They offer a variety of options, including family rooms, but all are large, comfortable and beautifully furnished to a high standard. The full-height windows and ceiling porthole mean you can enjoy never-ending desert vistas or the starry night sky from the comfort of your king-size bed, or alternatively head out on to your private terrace to enjoy a drink with the most incredible view.

All rooms come with air-con and a large private bathroom, and are well-spaced so as to allow you to enjoy the views and tranquility without feeling that there are lots of people around.

Dinner and breakfast (included in the price) are served in the dining tent, but do note that previous guests haven’t been too enthusiastic about the food.

Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel offers a variety of tours including jeep and camel excursions, and people speak very highly of the guided stargazing that you can join in the evenings.

Prices | The bubbles start at around £190 per night.

Sun City

Sun City offers three types of accommodation: relatively basic doubles, a room they refer to as a ‘Royal Tent’, and ‘Martian Tents’.

Whilst the first two are of an okay standard, the reason Sun City makes this list of luxury camps is for its beautiful bubble rooms (what they refer to as ‘Martian Tents’). These bubbles offer exquisite panoramic views over the desert, and are furnished in a modern style, with clean minimalist lines, comfortable furnishings and bathrooms that wouldn’t look out of place in a quality city hotel. They also have their own private balcony area.

Previous guests speak very highly of the food (both breakfast and dinner), especially noting the good vegetarian options.

The camp can arrange various jeep tours and other activities for guests.

Prices | The basic rooms start at £188 per night (which we honestly think is overpriced), and the martian tents start at around £300 a night; both rates include breakfast and dinner.

Memories Aicha Luxury Camp

Memories Aicha offers two types of accommodation: the domes and the luxury tents.

The tents are the definition of Arabian indulgence, decorated with heavy drapes, gorgeous furniture and ornate designs.

However, if you want a panoramic view, you have to go for one of the domes - they offer a similarly sumptuous interiors design with the added benefit of incredible panoramic views of the stars by night. These domes are also tinted, so guests can see out, but other can’t see inside!

Breakfast and dinner - included in the price - are served in the large restaurant tent which has been decorated in a similar aesthetic (think bespoke ornate furniture, lots of gold and colour), and you can enjoy the rest of your evening in the bar or outside area.

The camp offers hiking, horseback riding, various walking and driving tours, as well as classes about local culture, and archery.

The only down side to this particular desert camp is that it is rather large. There are 56 rooms across its selection of tents and domes, and should you be visiting in peak season when all are full, the number of guests may make an intimate experiences impossible, especially during meal times and after dinner.

Prices | Rates start at £189 a night for the tents.

Palmera Camp Wadi Rum

Located around a 20-minute drive from Wadi Rum village, Palmera Camp offers a collection of luxurious permanent tents and bubble rooms, each with incredible views, a private bathroom, air-con, and individual outdoor seating areas.

Previous guests speak very highly of the communal lounge & hang-out areas, hosting a variety of games and even a telescope for observing the night sky.

The most unique feature of Palmera Camp however is its swimming pool*. Yep! Although we’re not entirely convinced by the pool’s eco-appropriateness in the middle of a desert landscape, there’s no denying how wonderful it would be take a dip after a long day of adventuring.

An excellent breakfast buffet and dinner feast are included in the nightly rate and served either in the restaurant or at the giant bbq area.

The camp also offers a variety of jeep & camel tours, alongside a variety of other activities.

Prices | The bubble domes are the cheaper option, costing between £350-£400 a night depending on the season, whilst the tents start at around £400 per night.

*There’s only one other camp with a pool - Rum Oasis Luxury Camp - and although we don’t consider it luxurious enough to make this list, it’s still definitely worth checking out if you can’t get the idea of taking a dip amongst the dunes out of your mind!

Zeina Desert Lodge

Whilst this gorgeous camp offers a number of panoramic dome tents, what sets Zeina Desert Lodge apart from the others on this list are the split-level lodges that are ideal for a group of friends travelling together or a small family.

Additionally, whilst many places focus more on a traditional Arabian design, Zeina has placed cool and contemporary decor at the forefront of their aesthetic - think lots of earthy tones, natural fabrics, and poured concrete floors.

Their rooms are really quite beautiful!

Breakfast and dinner are included in the price, but do be aware that the quality may not compare to that of other camps in this list.

Tours can be arranged in advance or on arrival, and you have the option of various camel rides, jeep tours and guided hikes.

Prices | Their cheapest rooms (more basic, but still modern tents) start at £98 a night, with the lodges costing around £350 a night.
